Great artwork and photography. I started painting just before my 54th birthday! It's never too late! Keep going!!

I can totally relate to being overwhelmed with creative ideas. I've got so many writing and art projects in various degrees of development, and loads more in a queue in my brain. I write everything down in Notes on my phone so when I'm unsure what to work on, I can refer back to that

Many thanks Kathryn, that is a really good idea, and also something I am trying to put into practice !

I feel the same way about my poetry, which I started doing a couple of years ago at age 55 with no background or training, or relevant knowledge whatsoever. I've often worried 'real' poets would be justifiably dismissive of my work. In the end though, I figure how I write, how I create, is from me, and how could it be otherwise? The real imposter would be to create based solely on the (perceived) perspective of others.

By the way, your photographs do not "resemble art", they are art! Also, I love your explorations in watercolour. I especially like the third one, with the rust-coloured circular overlays. It feels liminal.

I’ve also got a bit of an art project based on my photos underway. It is both inspiring and frustrating because I seem to take more steps backwards than forwards in achieving what I want sometimes, but I still believe in it. Ideas about how to get over the latest hurdle come to me at all kinds of inconvenient times, I need to relearn how to slow down, be patient and trust the process.

I have only recently come across your photography and love the painterly feel so not surprised you are exploring painting mediums. I have been painting for more years than I want to admit and painting has been my main creative outlet however I have been exploring photography alongside painting for almost as long. For me I know I will never stop painting and never stop learning so I would say that is the first thing - you can spend a lifetime exploring painting and visual expression using the medium of choice and the technical aspects will take a lifetime to master while the possibilities for expression are endless. So there is no rush to master it, and embracing the love of the process is more important that the result. I paint in oils, and when I look at your photography, I can imagine using multiple layers of transparent oil paint lovingly applied to create something that expresses the depth and movement of your photos. Maybe as it is early days you could explore different painting mediums? An inspiring and technically capable teacher will help immensely so that’s the best way to start on the journey - enjoy!
