ETHEREAL - The Project & Process
A deeper dive into ETHEREAL, my first photography book, published by Kozu Books
Hello and welcome to the latest edition of ETHEREAL. Today I would like to show and talk to you in more detail about what can be expected from my first photography book, also titled “ETHEREAL”, which is being made by independent book publisher Kozu Books.
ETHEREAL is now available to pre-order, with a standard (£20.00) and collectors edition (£55.00). Pre-ordered standard editions will be signed by myself. The collectors editions will all be signed, and also come with a signed and numbered limited edition print of “Ocean Breeze”, printed on Hahnemuhle German Etching paper, and limited to 50 editions. We anticipate the book shipping in November.
"Ocean Breeze" - The limited edition print that will accompany the collectors edition.
It feels fitting for “Ocean Breeze” to be the limited edition print. This image, taken on a golden Sennen Cove summer sunset is pivotal in my journey as a photographer. Not only for opening my eyes to the freedom of abstract photography, but also the mindful benefits of Coastal photography, and also is the image that cemented my raw and emotional connection to Cornwall.
Printed on Hahnemuhle German Etching paper - Matt / 310gsm. A heavy duty paper with a textured finish and velvety matt surface, which reproduces painterly images and pastels superbly.
ETHEREAL
ɪˈθɪərɪəl
“Extremely delicate and light, in a way that seems not to be of this world”.
Welcome to ETHEREAL - Impressionistic interpretations of the Coast. The book is the culmination of nearly ten years of work, and is something that could never have happened if my photography had not found such a vibrant, engaging and supportive community who have taken such a keen interest in my work.
It is humbling, not only to have gained this support, but for it to have provided the platform to put me in the privileged position where I can say that my passion has become my career.
My interest in publishing a book was born in 2014 when I made my first visit to Dungeness. That photoshoot opened my eyes to excitement and benefits of pursuing long term photography projects that could, over time, become a coherent body of work. When I discovered ICM and abstraction a few years later, this pursuit of project photography only grew, and fast forward to today, where I feel I finally have a body of work that is worthy enough to be published in physical format.
I have been purchasing and following the output from Kozu Books since their early days of “Landscape Editions”, and knew that this would be the publisher that I would love to work with. When Greg emailed me to discuss the possibility of making a book together, it really was one of those “pinch me” moments!
Key Features Of The Book
The book comprises of two bodies of Coastal ICM work and has a forward written by my good friend and fellow ICM photographer Shona Perkins.

Cornwall is a location that not only inspires my photography, but with which I have a strong emotional connection and is the location where my passion for ICM photography was born.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about the journey behind ETHEREAL. If you would like to support the project by pre-ordering a copy then please use the link below. The support for the book so far has been truly humbling, and I sincerely appreciate every person who has taken the time to like, comment and share posts and part with their hard earned money to purchase the book, especially with times as hard as they are.

Congratulations Mark - looks like it's going to be great! I pre-ordered today :-)
I can’t go through and ❤️ or 👍 each photo shown here, but I would if I could. I plan to pre-order when I get home from my current trip.
My only wish would be for the book to be bigger.
